Ueda is a region located in the northern part of Nagano prefecture. It includes the cities of Ueda and Chikuma. The Chikuma River, the longest in Japan, runs through this area.
For sightseeing, spa areas such as Bessho Onsen and Togura Kamiyamada Onsen are popular. Besides that, we also recommend cultural facilities such as the "Yanagimachi Street, Traditional Townscape of Yanagimachi" where old-fashioned streets remain, and the Utsukushi-ga-hara Open-Air Museum. In winter, you can enjoy winter sports such as skiing in Sugadaira Kogen Plateau.
It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area. From major cities, you can get here by the Hokuriku bullet train. From Tokyo Station to Ueda Station, it takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
